Alabama coach Nick Saban was named the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week, the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl announced Tuesday. The honor goes to the coach whose program not only has success on the field but also embodies scholarship, leadership and integrity.
No. 1 Alabama recently shut out No. 3 LSU 29-0 last Saturday on the road at Tiger Stadium.
“It’s easy to take a win like this for granted and say everyone expected it,” said Jim Terry, the foundation’s chairman. “But we believe this was a statement win for the Crimson Tide that has set them up for yet another College Football Playoff appearance.”
Alabama is ranked second in the SEC academically with an Academic Progress Rating of 984 and tied fourth in Graduation Success Rate. The Crimson Tide played with 25 graduates on its roster during last year’s postseason run. It had 10 players named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, good for second most in the country.
Saban and his wife, Terry Saban, also have their Nick’s Kids foundation. They have raised about $8 million, which has been dispersed among at least 250 charities and organizations.
