Alabama’s coaches named quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle as players of the week on offense after Alabama’s 50-17 win against The Citadel. Tagovailoa went 18-22 passing for 340 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 37 yards and another touchdown. Waddle posted six catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns on the day.
Linebackers Anfernee Jennings and Mack Wilson were players of the week on defense. Jennings led the team with a career-high 11 tackles and one tackle for loss. He also recovered a fumble and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown. Wilson posted nine tackles against the Bulldogs.
D.J. Lewis and Brian Robinson Jr. were named special teams players of the week.
Injury updates
Redshirt sophomore left guard Deonte Brown (turf toe) practiced on Monday. Brown was injured against Mississippi State and did not play against The Citadel.
Sophomore right guard Alex Leatherwood (sprained ankle) did not practice on Monday but is expected to practice later this week.
Redshirt sophomore safety Deionte Thompson, who banged his knee in the game, practiced on Monday.
Senior running back Damien Harris (concussion) is improving, coach Nick Saban said.
“This was called a mild concussion, and hopefully he’ll be back to his baseline soon and he can resume activity when that occurs,” Saban said.
