Alabama held firm as the No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff rankings this week after beating rival Auburn 52-21.
The Crimson Tide (12-0) has been ranked No. 1 in all five editions of the College Football Playoff rankings this season. Clemson (12-0) checked in at No. 2, where it has been since the rankings were first released in October. Notre Dame (12-0) came in at No. 3 for the fourth straight week. Clemson will face Pitt on Saturday for the ACC championship, while the Irish are idle.
Georgia (11-1), Alabama’s opponent in the SEC championship game on Saturday, moved from fifth to fourth following Michigan’s loss to Ohio State. The Wolverines tumbled to No. 7
The Bulldogs were followed by Oklahoma (11-1) and Ohio State (11-1), both of which will play in their conference championship games this weekend. Next up was Michigan, followed by Central Florida with Florida and LSU rounding out the top 10.
Alabama currently owns four wins over teams ranked in the top 25. LSU checked in at 10th; Mississippi State was 18th and Texas A&M moved from 22nd last week to 19th. Missouri entered the poll at No. 24.
The SEC had eight total teams in the top 25, the most for any conference since the poll began in 2014.
