MIAMI GARDENS, Fla, — Sophomore wide receiver Henry Ruggs III caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa in the first quarter. That gave him 17 career receiving touchdowns, tied for fourth in school history with DJ Hall. It was also his 11th touchdown reception this season, tied with Amari Cooper‘s 2012 season for third most in school history.
Tua Tagovailoa set a new school record for passing yards in a season in the first half. He had 3,577 yards at halftime after throwing for 224 yards before the break. The previous record had been held by Blake Sims, who threw for 3,487 yards in 2014.
Tagovailoa moved into sole possession of second place in school history with his 49th career touchdown pass, a 10-yard throw to Ruggs in the first quarter. He had been tied with Jalen Hurts.
Tagovailoa also moved into 11th place in school history in career passing yards in the first half, overtaking Mike Shula (4,069 yards). He moved from 12th place to 9th place for most completions in a single season by halftime with 214 completions at the midway point of the game.
Alabama’s current win streak is at 16 games, the 15th longest streak by a team in SEC history.
