After missing out on two prized defensive linemen earlier in the day, the Crimson Tide landed a big signing from 4-star defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher on Wednesday afternoon. He chose Alabama over in-state LSU. Oregon, Texas A&M and Arkansas were also in the running.
Sopsher is ranked the No. 47 overall prospect and No. 5 defensive tackle in the 2019 class. He was selected to play in both the Under Armour All-America Game and the Polynesian Bowl.
By landing Sopsher, an Amite, Louisiana, native, Alabama coach Nick Saban swayed yet another elite Louisiana prospect to select UA instead of LSU in recent years.
With the addition of Sopsher, the Crimson Tide now has six defensive linemen committed or signed in its class, although it is possible some may transition to other roles like outside linebacker.
Sopsher is Alabama’s 27th commitment in the 2019 class.
