Salaries have been set for 10 Alabama assistant football coaches, including the seven new ones, according to payroll information obtained by The Tuscaloosa News. The Compensation Committee of the UA System board of trustees approved all of the contracts Wednesday.
Offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will make $1.55 million in 2019, $1.6 million in 2020 and $1.65 in 2021. This is Sarkisian’s second stint at Alabama. He held this role at the end of the 2016 season for one game, the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship. He then spent two years coordinating the offense of the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL. Sarkisian will also be the Crimson Tide’s quarterbacks coach.
Running backs coach Charles Huff’s two-year deal is for $525,000 annually. He has a buyout from Mississippi State, where he was the assistant head coach, run game coordinator and running backs coach in 2018. For Alabama, Huff also has the title of associate head coach.
Wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins is down for two years and $450,000 per year. He spent the last three seasons at Virginia Tech in the same spot.
Offensive line coach Kyle Flood will be making $650,000 annually for two years. Flood, like Sarkisian, worked for the Falcons prior to Alabama. Flood was the Atlanta assistant offensive line coach in 2017 and 2018.
Outside linebackers coach Sal Sunseri will also be bringing in $650,000 per year for two years. He has a buyout from Florida, where he was the Gators’ defensive line coach last season.
Safeties coach Charles Kelly has an agreement for $800,000 annually in 2019 and 2020. He has a buyout from Tennessee, where he spent a season as the Volunteers’ special teams coordinator and safeties coach. Kelly will also be the Crimson Tide’s associate defensive coordinator.
Defensive line coach Brian Baker is good for two years and $750,000 annually. He, like Huff, has a buyout from Mississippi State and will also be considered Alabama’s associate head coach. Baker held the same position for the Bulldogs three seasons in a row.
Pete Golding was promoted from co-defensive coordinator to full-time defensive coordinator. He will now make $1.1 million in 2019 and $1.2 million in both 2020 and 2021. That’s a bump from his previous salary of about $650,000. Golding also retains his responsibility of inside linebackers coach.
With that, both coordinators’ contracts are good for three years.
Karl Scott is back for his second season as the Crimson Tide’s cornerbacks coach. His salary has been raised from about $350,000 to $525,000. He’s OK for two more years.
Jeff Banks has also returned for a second go-around as Alabama’s special teams coordinator. He made about $270,000 last year and will now make $541,277 this year. In 2020, that number will increase to $650,000.
Total, these 10 new coaching deals will add up to more than $7.54 million in 2019.
Three additional football staff members had new deals approved, too.
Scott Cochran, the strength and conditioning head coach since 2007, is good for three years and $595,000 per year. Jeff Allen, the head athletic trainer, is confirmed for three years and $235,000. Robert Welton, the director of player personnel, is on for two years and $210,000.
