Georgia has lost two straight games to Alabama. And both times the backup quarterback entered the game in the second half and led the Crimson Tide to victory, Tua Tagovailoa in the 2017 national championship game, and Jalen Hurts in last season’s SEC title game.
So what will be the secret to beating Alabama this season, should the two meet again in Atlanta for the league title?
“Take out their backup quarterback, right?,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart joked at Tuesday’s SEC Media Days. “That’s part of the plan. They do a tremendous job and we haven’t finished the way we need to. To be honest, that goes right to me. We have to do a better job of finishing the game.”
Tagovailoa was Hurts’ backup two seasons ago while Hurts was the backup last season. Mac Jones is the backup quarterback for Alabama this season.
