It was pads, helmets and shorts for the University of Alabama football team in its Tuesday practice. Here are the notes and observations.
– I didn’t see nose guard D.J. Dale at all, and wide receiver Henry Ruggs III didn’t take a rep in the media viewing period. Ruggs’ light load makes sense, since UA coach Nick Saban said he would be sore for a few days from the hip pointer he suffered against Ole Miss. Outside linebacker Terrell Lewis and defensive back Shyheim Carter were full participants.
– Chris Owens, Landon Dickerson, Emil Ekiyor Jr. and Darrian Dalcourt all got reps snapping. Owens, Dickerson and Dalcourt are obvious; Ekiyor Jr. was a first for me. Saban has mentioned him as a center before, but seeing him do it in practice was new for me. It’s unlikely to come to fruition this year, but it does give him another way to get on the field later in his career, if needed.
