University of Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against Texas A&M. He returned four punts for 128 yards; that total was third-most in UA history, following two Javier Arenas games: 147 yards against Mississippi State and 153 yards against Tulane, both in 2008.
Waddle was also a special teams honoree by the UA coaching staff; in addition to his punt returns, Waddle caught three passes for 48 yards and a touchdown. Waddle was joined as a special teams honoree by Patrick Surtain II, for his work on kickoff coverage, and Ale Kaho, after he blocked a punt for a touchdown in a second straight game.
The offensive honorees were center Landon Dickerson, running back Najee Harris and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Dickerson missed only one assignment, helping Harris run for a season high 114 yards and Tagovailoa throw for 293 yards and four touchdowns.
Terrell Lewis and Xavier McKinney were the defensive selections. Lewis posted two sacks and two quarterback hurries, but the coaching staff credited him with five hurries. McKinney recovered a fumble, broke up a pass and added six tackles.
