LaBryan Ray remains absent from practice during the media viewing periods. The foot injury he suffered against South Carolina kept him out for the remainder of the regular season. Saban said Ray has made progress, but that progress has not gotten the junior defensive end back on the field yet.

– Wide receiver DeVonta Smith was in full pads for practice, but did not run a full-speed route during the media viewing periods. Saban did not mention Smith when addressing the injury status of other players in his Monday press conference.

– Thompson High School football coach Mark Freeman was a spectator at practice. He coached current UA quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, offensive lineman Amari Kight, defensive back DJ Douglas and wide receiver Kyle Smoak at Thompson. Thompson has a defensive end in the class of 2022, Jeremiah Alexander, that is a four-star according to 247 Sports.
