Offensive lineman Brandon Kennedy has joined the Tennessee program, transferring from Alabama, according to a report by GoVols247.
Kennedy is a graduate transfer and will be eligible to play immediately this fall. He is expected to enroll in as a student in Tennessee’s second summer session. He had also considered a transfer to Auburn, according to reports.
A 6-foot-3, 300-pound former four-star prospect from Wetumpka, Kennedy was a backup center at Alabama and could play center or guard at Tennessee.
Kennedy will have two years of eligibility remaining.
The SEC changed a rule at its spring meetings last month that previously prevented graduate transfers from transferring from one conference school to another without a waiver. The rule change allows student-athletes who have graduated to play immediately at another conference school without need of a waiver from the school they are leaving.
“If we agree in the SEC at these meetings that we’re going to have free agency in our league and everybody can go wherever they want to go when they graduate, that’s what we should do,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said prior to the vote to change the league rule. “Then Brandon Kennedy can go wherever he wants to go.”
As of Thursday morning, he was still listed on Alabama’s roster. UA does not usually update its offseason roster until later in the summer.
