Former University of Alabama quarterback Andrew Zow has taken a head coaching job with the Bessemer High School football team.

Zow, who played for the Crimson Tide from 1998-2001, was the head coach of the Calera Eagles since 2016.

Zow takes command of a Bessemer program that fired all its football coaches, including first-year coach Derone Fagan, in May for conducting illegal practices.

In his first season Zow led the Calera Eagles to a 8-4 record, winning his first four games, and advancing to the second round of the playoffs. He went 16-18 in three seasons at Calera.

Before that Zow was the head coach at Montevallo from 2012-15, compiling a 14-29 record, with his 2015 squad going 9-3 and reaching the playoffs.

At Alabama, Zow completed 459 of of 852 passes for 5,983 yards with 35 touchdowns.
