Does the hiring of Brian Daboll mark in change in philosophy for the University of Alabama’s offense?
Judging by head coach Nick Saban’s remarks Wednesday after while speaking to reporters at the Crimson Tide’s annual Pro Day, that answer is no.
Saban hired Daboll to replace exiting offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. Many analysts observed that Daboll’s experience in the NFL would signal a more pro-style attack in 2017.
Alabama has always wanted to feature a power running game. That will remain the philosophy for the upcoming season too. But don’t expect Alabama to scrap the spread and some of the skills Jalen Hurts does best.
“Brian’s got a lot of experience,” Saban said. “He’s coached 11 years with the Patriots and (four) years in the NFL as an offensive coordinator. He coached with us at Michigan State.
“I think he’s got a lot of knowledge and experience in the pro game as well as being a very bright guy that can learn some of the things that we’ve done here relative to the spread and do what our players can do here.”
