A steady pour of rain Thursday morning forced the team indoors for the afternoon practice session, the sixth of spring. A big group of recruits packed the sidelines to take in the workout.
Running backs
The running backs went through drills with Bo Scarbrough (in a black jersey) leading the way. Behind him were B.J. Emmons (also in a black jersey), Josh Jacobs, Najee Harris and Brian Robinson. Damien Harris was at the back of the drills. He sustained a foot sprain last Saturday.
Wide receivers
Calvin Ridley was up front going through curl route drills. Cam Sims was up next followed by Robert Foster, Xavian Marks, Jerry Jeudy, Chadarius Townsend, Derek Kief, T.J. Simmons and Tyrell Shavers.
Offensive line
The line worked in tandem drills, learning to block down on the same defender together. Matt Womack worked with Lester Cotton and Ross Pierschbacher worked with Scott Lashley.
Defensive backs
UA head coach Nick Saban worked with one half of the secondary in a split-field look (Derrick Ansley took to the half of the field). Minkah Fitzpatrick, Tony Brown, Ronnie Harrison, Shyheim Carter and Trevon Diggs were with Saban.
Miscellaneous
Shaun Dion Hamilton ran sprints down one sideline as he continues to come back from a torn ACL. He looked noticeably heavier (which isn’t all that unexpected considering he’s not been able to run). He’s listed at 233 pounds but I’d guess currently he’s in the 250-pound range. Derrick Henry and O.J. Howard were spotted at practice.
