The University of Alabama finished 15th in the final Capital One Cup standings for the 2016-17 school year, with the women raking 42nd.
The cup is awarded annually to the top men’s and women’s NCAA Division I athletic programs, based upon points earned throughout the school year derived from final standings of NCAA championships and final coaches’ polls.
Ohio State won the men’s Capital One Cup for the past school year, with Stanford taking the women’s cup.
The recently-released final standings awarded Alabama men’s programs points in football (second place), swimming and diving (10th), indoor track and field (eighth) and outdoor track and field (10th)
UA earned women’s points in gymnastics (sixth place) and indoor track and field (third).
The finish for Alabama men’s and women’s program was a drop from the previous year. The UA men finished seventh in the 2015-16 school year, with the women placing 28th.
