Alabama was back out for practice number two of fall camp. Here is what I saw during the media viewing period.

Thursday I focused on the defensive line, offensive line and linebackers. Today I went to the opposite of the field to watch the defensive backs, the quarterbacks and the wide receivers.

Inside linebackers

The group worked in the following order: Rashsaan Evans, Shaun Dion Hamilton, Keith Holcombe, Joshua McMillon, Dylan Moses, Ryan Burns, Markail Benton and Mack Wilson.

Defensive backs

Minkah Fitzpatrick was again with the corners. On one pass drill he tipped the ball multiple times to himself before diving at an attempted grab. The kid is that competitive. During one particular drill Nick Saban was not pleased with a walk-on’s rep and lit into him. I continue to be impressed with Levi Wallace and think there’s a good chance that he earn a role in this year’s secondary. He has long arms and has worked to add size.

Tight ends

Kedrick James was back with the tight ends after spending Thursday with the defensive linemen. The freshman will likely move around during fall camp to try to find the best place for him this season. I really like Irv Smith and the ability he brings. He seems tailor made for the h-back position. His athleticism and blocking ability really make him a combo player and a potential mismatch for defenders.

Odds and ends

The quarterbacks seem to be a tight-knit group, full of support for one another. After one throw by Mac Jones, Jalen Hurts offered, “There you go.” Even when one quarterback is not participating in a drill, he seems actively into rooting for his teammate to perform the best.

Up next: Fan day is an open practice Saturday.
