The open practice was a good chance to watch players in different positions for a couple of hours, but it was akin to 7-on-7 football. The team was in shells.

Offensive line

The first grouping of the offensive line remained the same with Jonah Williams, Ross Pierschbacher, Bradley Bozeman, Lester Cotton and Matt Womack lined up from LT-RT. Alex Leatherwood appeared to be with the second grouping at left tackle, Dallas Warmack at left guard, J.C. Hassenauer at center, Richie Petitbon/Deonte Brown at right guard and Scott Lashley at right tackle.

Defense

The open practice featured a lot of 7-on-7 work. Here are the players in the two deep grouping. At corner with the ones was Anthony Averett and Trevon Diggs, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Anthony Averett were the safeties. Christian Miller and Anfernee Jennings were the outside linebackers and Shaun Dion Hamilton and Rashaan Evans were the inside linebackers. Da’Shawn Hand and Raekwon Davis were the defensive ends and Da’Ron Payne was the defensive tackle.

With the twos were Tony Brown and Levi Wallace at corner, Keaton Anderson and Deionte Thompson at safety, Ben Davis and Mekhi Brown at inside linebacker, Dylan Moses and Markail Benton at outside linebacker, Jamar King and LaBryan Ray at defensive end, Johnny Dwight at defensive tackle. Tony Brown was the Star defensive back and Deionte Thompson was the safety in dime looks.

Misc. Notes

I wasn’t particularly impressed with the overall play at quarterback during the course of the day. It’s important to remember that it’s still awfully early, so need to panic. Jalen Hurts made a nice throw down the left side line for a touchdown to Robert Foster. Tua Tagovailoa had a couple of nice throws as well.

Najee Harris is an absolute nightmare in the passing game for linebackers to deal with. He put Tony Brown in the spin cycle on one play. Really impressed with the physicality of freshman offensive lineman Jedrick Wills. He’s still raw, but the mentality is there. Lester Cotton looks like he’s gained weight. Deonte Brown has lost some. Shaun Dion Hamilton is in better shape than he was in the spring (during which he was recovering from a torn ACL). VanDarius Cowan wore a black, no-contacy jersey and rode the exercise bike. Damien Harris broke through the middle of the line and scored a touchdown.
