Alabama was working outside today on its ninth practice of fall camp. The Crimson Tide will hit the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium tomorrow for its first scrimmage, so expect to start seeing some movement and separation on the depth chart beginning then. Here’s what we saw in the open period of today’s practice.
Injury update
Outside linebackers Jamey Mosley (concussion) and VanDarius Cowan (back) continued to wear black and work off to the side. Freshman running back Najee Harris was not in black but didn’t appear to be going through all the individual drills we saw during the open portion of practice. Freshman offensive lineman Kendall Randolph was off to the side running, but no way of knowing if that was because of an injury or something else.
Wide receivers
The receivers lined up in a single line at one point for a drill which they went through in the following order:
- Calvin Ridley
- Jerry Jeudy
- Cam Sims
- Robert Foster
- Xavian Marks
- Devonta Smith
- Tyrell Shavers
- Henry Ruggs
- Derek Kief
Defensive line
Freshman LaBryan Ray was getting some tutoring along with Da’Shawn Hand and Isaiah Buggs, two defensive ends Alabama will be counting on heavily this year. We’ve heard good things about what Ray has done in the early days of practice.
Defensive backs
Looked like Alabama was playing with lots of different personnel groupings in practice today in a nickel drill. When I looked over, it was Minkah Fitzpatrick and Trevon Diggs at corner with Tony Brown at nickel. Deionte Thompson and Ronnie Harrison were at safety. In other groupings Anthony Averett was at cornerback and Fitzpatrick had returned to safety.
