The team worked outside on an wildly humid day (99 percent humidity) in full pads, following the first scrimmage of fall Saturday. Here is what I witnessed during the media viewing period.
Offensive line
The offensive line (via Ben Jones): The first grouping remained the same with Jonah Williams, Ross Pierschbacher, Bradley Bozeman, Lester Cotton and Matt Womack. With the second grouping: Alex Leatherwood, Dallas Warmack, JC Hassenauer, Chris Owens and Jedrick Wills. The third grouping included: Scott Lashley, Josh Casher, Brandon Kennedy, Richie Petitbon and Kendall Randolph.
I’ve been really impressed with Wills since I saw him at the open practice. He’s very physical and has good footwork.
Outside linebackers
The group worked in the following order: Christian Miller, Anfernee Jennings, Jamey Mosley, Terrell Lewis, Mekhi Brown, Ben Davis, VanDarius Cowan and Christopher Allen.
Inside linebackers
The group worked in the following order: Rashaan Evans, Shaun Dion Hamilton, Keith Holcombe, Joshua McMillon, Mack Wilson, Dylan Moses and Markail Benton.
Running backs
The group worked in the following order: Bo Scarbrough, Najee Harris, Damien Harris, Ronnie Clark and Brian Robinson. I did not spot Josh Jacobs, who Nick Saban said was held out of the scrimmage due to a hamstring injury.
Dime defense
Anthony Averett was at right corner with Trevon Diggs at left. Minkah Fitzpatrick was the money and Tony Brown was the Star. Hootie Jones and Ronnie Harrison were the safeties. Keep an eye on Deionte Thompson at safety. He’s making a move.
