The Alabama Crimson Tide will face Miami in the 2021 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The game was announced Tuesday.
The Tuscaloosa News previously reported that UA was in negotiations to play Miami in its 2021 season opener.
This will mark the first meeting between the schools since the 1992 national championship game. Alabama defeated the Hurricanes 34-13 in the Jan. 1, 1993 Sugar Bowl to finish an undefeated run to the title.
Alabama will play Louisville in Orlando next season in a neutral-site game and will face Duke to open the 2019 season in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff game.
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to open another season in Atlanta for the 2021 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement. “Our team and our fans have always enjoyed playing in Atlanta, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium is a fantastic competitive environment. This event always has the feel of a bowl game and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl staff has made it a first-class event. We have a lot of respect for Coach (Mark) Richt and the Miami program, and we look forward to a great game in 2021.”
Said Richt, “We are excited to kick off the 2021 season against Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. Both teams have great tradition. We are looking forward to the battle.”
