Freshman quarterback Mac Jones was charged with driving under the influence after police responded to a traffic accident early Friday.
Jones, 19, was involved in a crash at the intersection of 10th Avenue and Paul Bryant Drive at 2:14 a.m., said Tuscaloosa Police spokeswoman Lt. Teena Richardson. No one was injured.
Officers discovered identification in his possession after he failed a field sobriety test, she said.
Jones, whose full name is Michael McCorkle Jones, was charged with DUI and improper identification by a minor. He has been released form the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $13,000 bond.
“We are disappointed in Mac’s actions and this is obviously not the kind of behavior we expect from our players,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement. “Mac has been suspended from Saturday’s game against LSU. We will further evaluate what actions we need to take moving forward so we can correct the behavior. It is a privilege to represent The University of Alabama and there are certain responsibilities that go along with that privilege.”
The Jacksonville, Florida native is one of UA’s two freshman quarterbacks. He has not appeared in a game this season.
