The Aggies will receive $1.91 million for the game. That’s the third-largest dollar amount ever paid to a visiting team, according to a Utah State press release.
“We look forward to the opportunity for our student-athletes to compete against Alabama, as well as the opportunity for our fans to enjoy one of the best game day experiences in all of college football,” Utah State athletics director John Hartwell said in the release.
This is the first nonconference game to be announced for Alabama in the 2022 season. Alabama will open the 2021 season against Miami in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.
Alabama has only played Utah State twice in its history. The Crimson Tide beat the Aggies 48-17 in the season opener in 2004 and 35-3 in 2005. The 2005 win was later vacated by the NCAA. Both games were played in Tuscaloosa. The Aggies are 1-17 all-time against SEC teams.
