Ole Miss came out for its first play on offense and dropped a dime downfield that had people saying, well, that’s one way to start a game.
Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu threw a deep pass to wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, who caught the ball en route to the end zone and beat out Alabama defensive back Saivion Smith. It was a 75-yard score and the Rebels’ only touchdown in the first half.
Alabama leads 49-7 at halftime in Oxford, Mississippi. It responded with a touchdown of its own when its offense took the field, and then just kept responding with six more touchdowns.
The last time an opponent scored against the Crimson Tide on its first play was Oct. 1, 2011. The Gators opened up with a 65-yard scoring pass in Gainesville, Florida. Alabama went on to win that game, 38-10.
