It’s official: Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts won’t be redshirting in 2018.
Hurts entered the Crimson Tide’s game against Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday on the fourth offensive drive with a 28-0 lead. He had played in all four games prior to Saturday, making this the fifth game he has played in this season.
The new NCAA redshirt allowed players to play in up to four games in a season and still receive a redshirt for that season. That possibility was removed when he entered the game.
Hurts finished the drive 2-3 passing for 78 yards, capped with a 54-yard touchdown pass to Henry Ruggs III to make the score 35-0. He also had a 24-yard completion to freshman wide receiver Jaylen Waddle on third and long.
That means this will be recorded as Hurts’ junior season. He’ll have one more season of eligibility remaining after this season, whether he remains at Alabama or chooses to transfer.
