Alabama defensive lineman Quinnen Williams and left tackle Jonah Williams both earned weekly honors from the SEC office. Quinnen Williams was named defensive player of the week while Jonah Williams was named offensive lineman of the week.
Quinnen Williams led the team with 10 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks in the 29-0 win over No. 3 LSU. He’s third on the team with 43 tackles this season and leads the team with 12 tackles for loss. He also has four sacks and nine hurries on the season. He was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance.
“I think Q is a great example of a guy that really has really good work ethic, really wants to be a good player,” coach Nick Saban said on Monday. “He’s bright. He’s worked really hard to get bigger and stronger. He’s got really good quickness. His athleticism is good. But probably plays with as much intelligence as anyone that we have on our defensive team in terms of understanding how people are trying to block him and what their pass protection and bird and rabbits and creating every advantage for himself.”
Jonah Williams had six knockdown blocks for the third time this season and helped the Alabama offense average 7.6 yards per carry on the night. Alabama finished with 576 total yards and 281 rushing yards, the most UA has had against LSU since 2002. He did not allow a sack or a pressure.
The Alabama coaches also recognized Quinnen Williams as one of its defensive players of the week, the seventh time he’s earned that honor in nine games. Other selections by the coaches included defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs, defensive back Shyheim Carter, outside linebacker Anfernee Jennings, outside linebacker Christian Miller, defensive back Xavier McKinney and inside linebacker Dylan Moses.
Jonah Williams and Alabama’s other four starting offensive linemen were all recognized as offensive players of the week, along with running back Damien Harris. It’s the fourth time this season the coaches have chosen Harris as a player of the week.
Freshman linebacker Ale Kaho was named special teams player of the week at linebacker.
