The University of Alabama was outside in shorts, pads and helmets on an overcast day in Tuscaloosa.
– UA coach Nick Saban said in his Monday press conference that center Chris Owens (knee) was the team’s lone questionable for the Texas A&M game, and that held true for the ensuing practice. Kicker Will Reichard (hip flexor) seemed to be warming up normally and nose guard D.J. Dale (knee) was participating in drills.
– Two follow-up notes on that, first on Dale and the defensive line. Byron Young was the first-team defensive end in LaBryan Ray‘s spot, with Phidarian Mathis practicing as the second-team nose guard.
– And on the offensive line: Owens had his knee tended to and was around drills, but not participating. We never saw a full five-man unit in the media viewing period, but there was a guard-tackle combo drill that featured Deonte Brown practicing next to Jedrick Wills Jr. as the right guard and tackle, respectively. The presumption there is Landon Dickerson would move to Owens’ spot at center, if he cannot play.
– The New England Patriots had a scout at practice, seen chatting with strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran.
