Alabama coach Nick Saban updated the status of two players the Monday after his team defeated Mississippi State, 31-24.

“I think Ross (Pierschbacher) will be out, for sure, for this game and then probably a medical decision after that as to where he is,” Saban said. “Minkah (Fitzpatrick)’s going to be, probably, day to day this week as to what he can do and how he sort of can respond to this sort of lingering injury.”

Pierschbacher, an offensive lineman, left last Saturday’s game in the first quarter with a high ankle sprain. J.C. Hassenauer ended up filling in for him at left guard.

Fitzpatrick hurt his hamstring against LSU but played the whole Mississippi State game. The defensive back made six tackles, broke up a pass and pressured the quarterback once.

Extra security

For this Saturday’s game, UA plans to use metal detectors at Bryant-Denny Stadium to improve security procedures. It’s a test. There will be walk-through detectors and wands at selected gates and around the stadium. Guests will have to remove any metal objects from pockets and clothing prior to the scan.

Alabama and Mercer kick off at 11 a.m. Gates will still open at normal times, and the prohibited items remain the same.
