Sophomore guard Kira Lewis Jr. of Alabama was named co-SEC Player of the Week on Monday after scoring 42 points in Crimson Tide wins over Vanderbilt and Kansas State last week.

Lewis, a 6-foot-2, 165-pound sophomore from Meridianville, averaged 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and 1.5 blocks in wins at Vanderbilt and against Kansas State. Lewis had 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists in Alabama’s win at Vanderbilt, He followed that up by leading  the Crimson Tide to a 77-74 win over Kansas State in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge with 26 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a career-high three blocked shots.

“He got downhill on us at times and we couldn’t control him,” said KSU coach Bruce Weber, who coached Lewis on the gold-medal winning Team USA Junior National team last summer.

Lewis shared Player of the Week honors with Kentucky forward Nick Richards, a 6-11 junior from Kingston, Jamaica, who averaged 22.5 points, 11 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in wins against Georgia and at No. 18 Texas Tech.

Alabama returns to action Wednesday night facing No. 22 LSU in Baton Rouge, La. in a 6 p.m. CT contest. Tiger forward Trendon Watford, a who played prep basketball at Mountain Brook, was the SEC Freshman of the Week, also announced on Monday.
