ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 1-ranked Alabama women’s golf team was seeking a second consecutive Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic title entering Sunday’s championship round at the par-72 6,300-yard University of Georgia Golf Club but strong play by the No. 8 Georgia Bulldogs on the back nine gave the host team a 3.5-1.5 win over the Crimson Tide.

Alabama won last year’s tournament with a 3-2 win over UCLA and has won the Liz Murphey four times (1987, 2011, 2012, 2016) since its inception in 1973.

Alabama will now turn its focus to the postseason and defending its SEC title at the 2017 Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Championships, which will take place April 21-23 at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Ala.
