COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – Shelby McEwen, a junior at the University of Alabama, won the Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field high jump championship on Saturday with a clearance of 7-4 ¼. It was Alabama’s first men’s high jump indoor title in 33 years.

Alabama junior Portious Warren finished third in the women’s shot put with an indoor school-record mark of 56-3 ¼ on her fifth attempt. Daniel Haugh placed second in the weight throw (74-10), and Vincent Kiprop (7:55.79) finished third and Gilbert Kigen (7:59.04) fifth in the men’s 3,000 meters. Stacey Destin finished fourth in women’s pentathlon with a score of 4,144, and Filippa Fotopoulou placed seventh in long jump with a leap of 20-6 ¼.

Going into Sunday’s finals, the Alabama men are in second place with 28 points, trailing leader Florida’s 30.5 points. The Crimson Tide women are tied for fifth with Ole Miss at 13 points. Arkansas is first with 41 points.
