The University of Alabama men’s team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 69-65 on Saturday to win the National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. It was the Alabama men’s second national championship, the first coming in 2013.
Alabama, the tournament’s No. 1 seed, was led by tournament MVP Michael Auprince with 31 points. DeQuel Robinson scored 21 points.
The Alabama women’s team came just short of successfully defending their 2017 championship. Alabama lost, 65-55, to the University of Texas-Arlington. Alabama’s women’s team has won the national title in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015 and 2017.
