BIRMINGHAM – Sophomore Kristen Gillman fired a 3-under par 69 to lead the Alabama women’s golf team to a five shot lead after the first round of the Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Championships at the par-72, 6,253-yard Greystone Golf and Country Club Legends Course in Birmingham, on Wednesday.

Gillman ended the day alone in first place in the individual standings with a one-shot lead. Junior Cheyenne Knight is in sixth place at 1-under par after an opening round 71. Junior Lauren Stephenson is tied for seventh after an even-par 72. Senior Lakareber Abe is tied for 13th with a 2-over par 74. Freshman Angelica Moresco recorded a 5-over par 77 and is tied for 32nd.

Alabama (286) was the lone team below par on Wednesday, finishing at 2-under. South Carolina (291) is five shots back at 3-over par. Vanderbilt (296) is third at 8-over par. Florida (298) is fourth at 10-over par and Arkansas (299) rounds out the top-five at 11-over par.
