Alabama swimmer Zane Waddell recorded a 50-meter backstroke time of 25.14 at the Richard Quick Invitational over the weekend, which ranks in the top 20 worldwide.

His Alabama teammate, senior Robert Howard, won the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 22.70. Waddell, a junior, finished second at 22.85. Waddell also finished second in the 50-meter butterfly and the 100-meter backstroke.

Howard added another win in the 100-meter freestyle, with Waddell again in second, and Howard also took third place in the 200-meter freestyle.

Senior Caroline Beene finished in third place in the 50-meter butterfly, and junior Allie Surrency took third in the 50-meter freestyle.

Alabama swimmers and divers combined to earn 11 medals over the event’s three days.
