TARRAGONA, Spain – Alabama women’s golfer Angelica Moresco fired a 1-under par 71 in the final round to take home the silver medal in women’s golf at the 2018 Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, Spain, on Thursday.
The Caldogno, Italy, native and her Italian teammates also captured the silver medal in the women’s team competition.
Moresco (69-72-72-71/284) finished at -4, to tie for first individually with Marta Sanz Barrio of Spain (69-75-72-68/284). Sanz Barrio clinching the gold medal in a playoff, with Moresco receiving the silver. Slovenia’s Ana Belac (69-77-68-72/286), who plays collegiately at Duke, took home the bronze at -2. Spain won the team gold, followed by Italy and Slovenia in the silver and bronze medal spots, respectively.
The Mediterranean Games is an Olympic-style multi-sport competition that has been held every four years since 1951. The event is open to 26 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa that border the Mediterranean Sea. This year’s 10-day event will conclude on July 1.
Moresco is also scheduled to play later this summer as a member of the Italian team in the European Ladies Team Championship, July 10-14, in Frohnleiten, Austria, and in the European Ladies Amateur Championship in Senica, Slovakia, July 25-28.
