MOUNTAIN BROOK – Former University of Alabama golfer Cammie Bentley, of Northport, won the 86th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship hosted by The Country Club of Birmingham in Mountain Brook, on Friday.

Bentley, who also won the state amateur itle in 2013, defeated Mary Kate Horton, of Birmingham, in the match play final, 2-and-1. She won hole Nos. 1, 3, 4, 7, and 12 to defeat Horton 2 and 1. She qualified for the match play as the fourth seed and took down seeds five, eight, 10, and 13 on her route to victory.

Bentley defeated Ally Williams, of Athens, in the semifinal 6-and-5. Bentley won hole Nos. 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 to claim the victory.

The second semifinal match saw Horton defeat Jordan Susce 5 and 4. Horton made three birdies during her match, including one on the 14th hole to book her ticket to the final. This is the furthest Horton has ever made it in the Women’s Amateur Championship.
