KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. – Alabama’s Kristen Gillman, Lauren Stephenson and Jiwon Jeon posted under-par finishes in stroke play to advance to the match play portion the 2018 U.S. Women’s Amateur in Kingston Springs, Tennessee, on Tuesday.

Gillman (70-70/140) finished stroke play at 2-under and tied for 22nd. She will meet Ting Hsuan Huang of Chinese Taipei in the Round of 64. Stephenson (69-72/141) finished at 1-under to tie for 33rd and will open match play against Australia’s Stephanie Bunque.

Jeon (74-67/141), who will begin her first season with the Crimson Tide this fall after transferring from Daytona State (Florida), turned in a 4-under-par round Tuesday to also tie for 33rd at 1-under. She will face Ty Akabane of Danville, California, on Wednesday

Following Wednesday’s round, two rounds of match play will take place on Thursday to determine Friday’s quarterfinalists.

Both Stephenson and Gillman are making their third consecutive appearance at the U.S. Amateur since joining the Alabama program. Stephenson reached the quarterfinals a year ago while Gillman reached the Round of 32.

Gillman is also a former U.S. Amateur champion, having won the 2014 title as a 16-year-old.
