KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. – Three members of the Alabama women’s golf team will play for spots in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur on Thursday afternoon at the par-71, 6,365-yard Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn.
Kristen Gillman, Lauren Stephenson and newcomer Jiwon Jeon all posted victories in Thursday morning’s round of 32 to advance to afternoon play.
Gillman defeated No. 9 seed Janet Mao of Northwestern, 3-and-2 in her morning match, and will face No. 8 seed Bailey Tardy from SEC rival Georgia. Tardy advanced with a 23-hole victory over Yealimi Noh of Concord, Calif.
Stephenson took down No. 2 seed Hyun Selin of South Korea, 5-and-4, and will meet Yuka Saso from the Philippines. Saso advanced with a 3-and-2 win over the University of Arizona’s Haley Moore.
Jeon advanced with a 2-and-1 win over No. 3 seed Olivia Mehaffey of Arizona State and will face No. 19 seed Sierra Brooks of the University of Florida this afternoon. Brooks defeated Arizona’s Bianca Pagdanganan, 5-and-3.
Due to a weather delay during the morning round, the Round of 16 began while the morning matches were being completed and is currently underway. Coverage of Thursday afternoon’s play will begin at 3 p.m. CT on FS1.
