FORT WORTH, Texas — Rising junior Edson Ortiz reached the finals of the 2018 Oracle ITA National Summer Championships after winning two matches on Monday at the Bayard Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Ortiz will take on Jake Van Emburgh (Oklahoma) in the finals Tuesday.

The winner will earn a bid to the ITA All-American Championships main draw in the fall, while both finalists have already gained a wild card spot into the qualifying draw of the tournament.

In the quarterfinal round, Ortiz moved past Alex Rybakov (TCU), who is ranked No. 517 in the latest ATP World Singles Rankings, 7-5, 6-4, to move to the semifinals. Then he defeated Josh Sheehy (Abilene Christian), 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6), to secure his spot in the finals.

As the No. 11 seed in the tournament, Ortiz began his run by cruising past Casey Ross (Dartmouth), 6-2, 6-3, and Thomas Brown (South Carolina), 6-4, 6-1, to make it to the Round of 16 where he defeated Marius Frosa (Wichita State), 7-6(5), 7-5.
