DALTON, Ga. – The No. 2-ranked Alabama men’s golf team carded a 54-hole team total of 19-under par 845 (288-270-287) to finish in third overall at the 2018 Carpet Capital Collegiate. The Crimson Tide boasted two golfers among the top 10, while all five placed among the top-30 in UA’s first event of the 2018-19 campaign.

The Crimson Tide was led by two-time All-American Davis Riley, who recorded the eighth top-five finish of his career when he tied for second overall with a three-day, 54-hole score of 9-under par 207 (68-69-70). The Hattiesburg, Miss., native did most of his damage on par 5 holes over the weekend, as he led the field in total eagles (2) and scoring average (4.25, -9).

Freshman Frankie Capan III, playing in his first career collegiate tournament, also finished among the top-10 individuals, closing play tied for eighth place with a 3-under par 213 (74-66-73). Capan, who was considered one of the top prep golfers in the nation, collected the Tide’s lowest 18-hole score of the tournament with a 6-under 66 during Saturday’s second round.

Sophomore Wilson Furr gave UA three golfers among the top 20, as he tied for 16th overall with an even par 216 (71-68-77) on the par 72, 7,178-yard Farm Golf Club layout. Sophomore Davis Shore (78-67-74) and junior Josh Sedeno (75-74-70) rounded out the Alabama golfers as they tied for 27th with both carding a 3-over 219.

Freshman Prescott Butler, playing as an individual this weekend, ended the tournament tied for 65th with a 225 (75-76-76).

Tournament host and seventh-ranked Georgia Tech and Tennessee tied for first at 21-under 843. The Volunteers won the team trophy when they won a tiebreaker in extra holes. South Carolina and No. 13 Clemson tied for fourth with both teams carding an 863 – 18 strokes back of the Crimson Tide. Rounding out the top-10 teams was No. 6 Auburn (866), No. 9 LSU (873), Virginia (873), North Florida (873) and Colorado State (881), respectively.

Alabama travels to Chicago to compete at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational, which will be played at the iconic Olympia Fields Country Club North Course on Sept. 14-16.
