Alabama volleyball came in ranked No. 25 in the AVCA Division I Coachse Poll, marking the program’s first-ever appearance in the national rankings. Alabama is off to a 9-0 start, best in school history.
Also Monday, senior Cidavia Hall was named as SEC Defensive Volleyball Player of the Week for the second time this season. Hall, who previously won the conference honor after week one, joins fellow senior Quincey Gary and former Crimson Tide player Amy Pauly as the only two-time Defensive Player of the Week in program history.
After receiving votes outside the top 25 for the past two weeks, Alabama moved into the national rankings on the strength of its first nine-match winning streak since 2014.
The Crimson Tide continues its schedule this week with four home matches, first facing Samford on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT and the Crimson-White Tournament, beginning Friday against South Alabama at 10 a.m. and No. 15 Purdue at 7 p.m. The weekend concludes against Southern Miss on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Hall, a Dothan native was named to the Hampton Inn Bama Bash All-Tournament team this past weekend, stuffing four blocks in each of Alabama’s three wins. She was also dominant on offensive, hitting .452 with 19 kills. In Friday’s win over Marshall, she tallied 10 kills with a .467 clip before going error-free in the night match against Georgia Tech, scoring five kills on seven swings for a .714 hitting percentage.
This season, Hall leads the SEC with a .500 hitting percentage and is fourth with 40 blocks, averaging 1.25 per set.
