OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The second-ranked University of Alabama men’s golf team carded a total of 4-over par 284 on Friday and is in fifth place after the opening round of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. The Crimson Tide, one of 10 squads in the 15-team field which are ranked in the top-25 entering the event, trails co-leaders No. 1 Oklahoma State and No. 11 California, who are tied at 7-under par 273.

Alabama was led by Davis Riley, the tournament’s defending individual champion, who carded his fourth consecutive below-par round to begin the season with 2-under par 68. He enters Saturday’s second round three strokes back of clubhouse leader Matthew Wolfe of Oklahoma State. Frankie Capan ended the day in a tie for 13th with an even par 70 on the 7,281-yard Olympia Fields North Course layout.
