Alabama gymnast Shallon Olsen will compete for Team Canada at the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Doha, Qatar, from Oct. 25 to Nov. 3, it was announced Monday.

“What a great accomplishment and honor for Shallon,” UA coach Dana Duckworth said. “It is such a huge deal to compete at the World Championships even once, so for her to be making her second appearance is just phenomenal. We look forward to helping her continue to prepare for the world stage and can’t wait to cheer her on from here in Tuscaloosa.”

Olsen previously earned a spot on the 2017 Canadian World Championships team and went on to place seventh on the vault and 16th on the floor exercise at the championships. She also competed for Team Canada at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, where she finished eighth on the vault.

Alabama starts its 2019 season Jan. 4 in Coleman Coliseum with a quad meet that’ll feature Southeast Missouri, Northern Illinois and Temple.
