OXFORD, Miss. – The Alabama women’s tennis team earned six singles wins and two doubles victories in the first day of play at the ITA Southern Regional Championships in Oxford, Miss., on Friday.
Senior No. 70 Andie Daniell (No. 5 seed in the tournament) dominated in the first round after defeating Rikeetha Pereira (Southern Miss), 6-0, 6-0, and then advanced to the quarterfinals after besting Paris Corley (LSU), 6-3, 6-1. Daniell will take on No. 12 seed Magda Adaloglou (Mississippi State) on Saturday.
The Crimson Tide picked up four more first round singles victories with junior Luca Fabian easing past Elsa Pool (Samford), 6-3, 6-2, sophomore Moka Ito winning over Daniela La Fuente (Tulane), 6-4, 6-3, junior Alba Cortina Pou earning a 6-4, 7-6(6), victory over Allie Sanford (Ole Miss), and junior Ann Selim besting Natalia De Ugarte (Samford), 6-2, 6-3.
The No. 6 seed in Daniell/Ito moved past Song/Turner (Auburn), 8-3, in doubles and Cortina Pou/Fabian, used an 8-0 win over Yazgan/Pereira (Southern Miss), to advance to the Round of 16.
