BIRMINGHAM – Four Alabama men’s tennis players advanced in the first qualifying round of the USTA $15k Futures event in Birmingham, on Friday.
No. 16 seed junior Alexey Nesterov defeated Finn Reynolds, 6-3, 6-4, while junior Edson Oritz bested Dejon Bevins, 6-3, 6-3. Jeremy Gschwendtner earned a win over Kevin Le after winning the first set 6-1 and then Le retired putting Gschwendtner through to the second round.
Roberto cruised to a 6-4, 6-1, victory over Rossouw Norval, while No. 10 seed Zhe Zhou’s match against Zachary Smith was postponed until Saturday due to rain. Sophomore Sam Fischer fell to Christopher Morin Kougoucheff, 6-1, 7-5.
