BIRMINGHAM — Junior Edson Ortiz and sophomore Riccardo Roberto both qualified for the USTA $15k Futures tournament after winning their respective qualifier finals on Monday in Birmingham.

Ortiz and sophomore teammate Jeremy Gschwendtner were matched up in one of the qualifier finals, with the Chihuahua, Mexico, native getting the best of Gschwendtner, 7-5, 6-1. Roberto made his way to the main draw after defeating Julian Zlobinsky, 6-2, 6-1.

In the first round of the 32-player main draw, Ortiz will compete against No. 4 seed Sam Riffice, while Roberto will play Giles Hussey. Both matches start on Wednesday.

Ortiz and junior Alexey Nesterov will also play in the main doubles draw against No. 3 seeded Benitez Chavarriaga/Kohen on Tuesday, not before 1 p.m. CT.
