The University of Alabama track and field team competed on opposite ends of the country this weekend, with some members of the team in California at the Stanford Invitational and others in Gainesville, Fla., at the Florida Relays.

In highlights at the Florida Relays, Esther Gitahi placed second in the 1,500 (4:18.40). Tamara Clark finished sixth (11:30) in the 100 meters. Samantha Zelden was fifth in the javelin (162-11). Abigail Kwarteng cleared 5-09.25 in the women’s collegiate invitational high jump, finishing with the second-best height of the competition.

Keitavious Walter placed seventh in the men’s 100 meters (10.38).

The Tide closed out the weekend with a third-place showing in the women’s Tom Jones College 4×400-meter relay race, where Takyera Roberson, Mauricia Prieto, Tamara Clark and Natassha McDonald posted a 3:28.60, the second fastest time in school history and just .04 of a second off the school record. Daija Lampkin, Symone Darius, D’Jai Baker and Krystal Sparling combined to finish second (1:31.80) in the 4×200-meter relay. In shot put Portious Warren placed second (57-02.25) and Haley Teel fourth ( 56-02.50).

Kord Ferguson medaled in a pair of events, taking second in the college shot put (63-09.50) and third in the college discus (190-05). Will Herrscher placed second in pole vault (17-05.50).

In Palo Alto, Gilbert Kigen placed third (28:20.28) and Alfred Chelanga 13th (28:43.71) in the 10,000 meters. Noel Rotich was second in the third section of the men’s 5,000 meters (14:03.62).
