Moresco in 12th individually, Alabama women’s golf 11th at NCAA regional

AUBURN – Alabama sophomore Angelica Moresco is in a tie for 12^th overall to lead the No. 10 seed women’s golf team after 36 holes of play at the 2019 NCAA Women’s Golf Auburn Regional. As a team, the Crimson Tide will enter Wednesday’s final round in 11^th overall with a team total 27-over par 603 (300-303).

Moresco finished the second round of play with a 2-under par 70, marking her 12^th round of par or better this season which is tied for the team lead (Jiwon Jeon). In fact, only five golfers in the entire 18-team field (96 golfers total) have shot a better single-round total over the 36 holes played at this year’s regional site.

Starting on the 10^th hole on Tuesday, Moresco got off to a hot start by sinking back-to-back birdies on holes No. 13 and 14. After a bogey on the 17^th (her eighth hole of the day), she recorded seven consecutive pars before carding another birdie on the seventh hole (her 16^th hole of the day) to result in her second round total. The Caldogno, Italy, native entered the day tied for 34^th after carding a 3-over par 75 on Monday’s opening round, however, she improved 22 spots and will enter the third and final round at 1-over par 145 (75-70).

Junior Jiwon Jeon also bested her first-round score by two strokes to finish the day in a tie for 59^th with a two-day total of 8-over par 152 (77-75). Juniors Kenzie Wright (80-73) and Anna Reid (78-75) both are tied for 63^rd with a 9-over par 153 on the par 72, 6,371-yard Saugahatchee Country Club Course. Freshman Mary Mac Trammell (86-82/168) rounds out the final spot in the Tide’s lineup

Duke, who entered the regional as the top seed, is the clubhouse leader at 1-over par 577, followed by No. 5 Virginia at 579. The No. 3 seed Florida State Seminoles and No. 2 Vanderbilt Commodores round out the top three closely knit teams in a tie for third at 580. East Carolina, ranked No. 14 in the nation, is in fifth (586), while No. 11 Tennessee and regional host No. 13 Auburn are tied for sixth (589) overall.

To reach the national championship, the Crimson Tide must finish among the top six teams in Auburn. The 2019 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships, which will be held May 17-22 at University of Arkansas at the Blessings Golf Club, in Fayetteville, Ark.
