Right-handed pitcher Davis Vainer is leaving Alabama baseball for Arizona as a graduate transfer, he announced in a post on his Instagram account on Sunday.
Vainer just completed his redshirt junior season in Tuscaloosa. He’ll have one year of eligibility left in Tucson.
Vainer pitched in 17 games this season, throwing 29 2/3 innings. He posted a career-best 3.34 earned run average, striking out 43 while giving up 21 walks. Opponents hit .173 against him and SEC batters hit .224 against him.
He redshirted during his freshman season in 2016 before becoming part of the bullpen in 2017 despite arriving at Alabama with almost no pitching experience. Vainer graduated in May and will be eligible immediately for the Wildcats.
