ORLANDO, Fla. – Senior No. 47 Mazen Osama fell 6-7(3), 6-3, 3-6, No. 45 Dan Little of Utah in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championships on Monday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
The two battled back-and-forth in the first set with Osama trailing 6-5, before forcing Little to a tiebreaker. In the tiebreak, Osama led 3-2 when Little came back to win the next five points to take the opening set. The Cairo, Egypt, native bounced back in the second set by winning 6-3 to force a third and final set. In the last set, Little led 4-3 before closing out the match after clinching the last two games.
Osama ends his storied singles career with a 73-52 record. This season, Osama was named First Team All-SEC for the third-straight year and ended the year with 17 singles victories in 2018-19.
Osama and sophomore Patrick Kaukovalta will play No. 17 Dominik Kellovsky and Nathan Ponwith of Arizona State in the first round of the Doubles Championships on Tuesday, May 21 with the time to be announced.
