Saturday’s WCWS schedule was disrupted by a weather delay that lasted three hours and nine minutes. A severe thunderstorm moved into the area at the start of the sixth inning of Game 1 between Washington and Minnesota at 12:50 CT.

Alabama was scheduled to play Florida at 1:30 p.m. but the first pitch wasn’t until 5:20 p.m. Alabama had no ill effects from the long delay.

“We played ‘Family Feud’ for two and a half hours on the chalkboard in the locker room, and we watched the ‘Bases Loaded’ coverage of ESPN college baseball,” Alabama coach Patrick Murphy said.

The delay pushed the rest of Saturday’s games behind and action was still going on late that night.

“We kind of bring the rain,” Murphy said. “Two NCAA reps said we didn’t have any rain the last two years, it was smooth sailing. I think they were both looking at me.”
